According to Turtle Creek Conversancy CEO/President Gay Donnell Willis,
The annual Kentucky Derby-themed fundraiser thrown by the Turtle Creek Conservancy is one of Dallas’ favorite spring parties, so when the announcement came from Churchill Downs that the Derby was moving to Saturday, September 5, Day at the Races swiftly followed suit!
Day at the Races is the Conservancy’s signature fundraiser helps raise the essential funds needed to care for 20 acres of historic Dallas green space and the elegant Arlington Hall. COVID-19 has magnified the value of parks and nature to our physical and mental health. We’ve seen usage of Turtle Creek Park grow exponentially. People are choosing it for its tranquil beauty and because it is a scenic wide-open space in such a densely populated part of the city.

Day at the Races “Derby” Event Co-Chairs Reanae Seth, Courtney Edwards and Leigh and Brian Danley are galloping forward with their plans and are still expecting to serve Mint Juleps, Fried Green Tomatoes, and Shrimp and Grits while guests mingle to the music of Ricki Derek on September 5. The 146th running of the Kentucky Derby will play on a super big screen and everyone jumps around and yells as if they are really at the racetrack! Of course, maybe that is because we have ‘wagering.’ When it comes to social distancing, we have lots of space in the Hall and acres of lawns and gardens in the park for party guests to use.
